Remarks
Remarks by Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Judith A. Chammas at the Town Hall Meeting
February 6, 2006
- Welcome. It has only a few months since the last Town Hall meeting, but there have been several incidents since September that we know have been of concern to some of you, and we want to focus on them this evening.
- We have Nick Sabruno with us today. Nick is the Regional Security Officer, and he has been particularly attentive to the bombings that took place in November and December. He is going to speak with you about Embassy concerns related to the ongoing terrorist campaign by the JMB. He will also emphasize some general security tips and pass out security and safety materials.
- We also have Dr. Peter Molberg, our Embassy physician, who has been focused on the reports of Avian Influenza instances which you have undoubtedly heard about on the news -- NOT in Bangladesh. But in other countries, in Turkey and Kuwait. Dr. Molberg is going to give you the best advice to follow while the U.S. Government monitors the reports. He also has a slide show to present.
- Most of you already knew Elizabeth Gourlay, our consul. The Bureau of Consular Affairs at the Department of State is very concerned about the safety and security and health of Americans overseas, and Elizabeth is your direct link to the State Department. She will speak to you about registration and warden messages.
