Basic Documents Needed to Apply for a Student Visa

1. COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM: The visa application form can be collected from the American Embassy. The form has to be filled out completely

2. VISA FEE: The fee for facing the visa interview is $100.00 or the equivalent amount in Bangladeshi currency to be paid at the Standard Chartered Bank.  The fee can be paid at three of the branches of the bank.  These branches are the Motijheel, Dhanmondi and the Gulshan II branches.  Receipt of payment should be saved to be shown at the Embassy during the time of the interview.

3. VALID PASSPORT: Passport should be validit for at least six months after the date that prospective students plan to leave for the U.S.

4. VALID I-20: Students must have a valid I-20 from the university/college for the current session that he/she is planning to attend.

NOTE:  Please remember to photocopy your I-20 before you go to the embassy for the visa interview.  Keep the copy at home for your reference.

5. ACCEPTANCE LETTER: Along with a valid  I-20, a letter of acceptance from the respective university/college authority must also be presented.

6. GRANTS/SCHOLARSHIP DOCUMENTS: If the student will receive any kind of financial aid from the university/college in the form of scholarship, assistantship or fellowship, appropriate documents must be shown to prove such aid.

7. EDUCATIONAL CERTIFICATES AND MARKSHEETS: Originals of all educational certificates and marksheets/transcripts (English version) should be taken to the interview.

8. FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS: The financial documents needed include a bank statement from the respective bank along with a transaction report and an affidavit of support from the concerned individual/s providing financial support to the prospective student. The affidavit of support should be attested by a notary public.

9. STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES: Prospective students must bring a copy of their standardized test scores (TOEFL, SAT, GRE or GMAT) for which they appeared as an entry requirement to the U.S. university/college.

10. CREDIT TRANSFER DOCUMENT: If applicable, a transfer student must show a letter from the university/college authority stating that the credits earned from previous institutions are under consideration.

SPECIAL NOTE:

STUDENTS ARE ADVISED TO APPLY FOR A VISA AS SOON AS THEY RECEIVE THEIR I-20s SINCE VISA PROCESSING REQUIRES A LONG WAIT.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THE CURRENT STUDENT VISA FEE IS $100.
