Bangla language instructions for DV 2011

Diversity Visa Program Notification

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program issues up to 50,000 diversity visas (DV) annually, drawn from a random selection among all entries, to people who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.  For complete information on the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, please click here.

Diversity Immigrant Visa Program 2011 Instructions

Entries for the 2011 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2011) must be submitted electronically between noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), Friday, October 2, 2009, and noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5), Monday, November 30, 2009.  Applicants may access the Electronic Diversity Visa entry form (E-DV) at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ during the registration period.  Paper entries will not be accepted. Applicants are strongly encouraged not to wait until the last week of the registration period to enter.  Heavy demand may result in website delays.  No entries will be accepted after noon EST on November 30, 2009.  Registration is free.   Eligibility requirements are strict, and all information provided by applicants must be complete and accurate.

Diversity Visa Qualification Requirements

  • To enter the DV-2011 program, you must be a native of one of the qualifying countries.
  • You must have either a high school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education, OR have two years of qualifying work experience.  To see whether your occupation qualifies, click here
  • You must meet all immigrant visa eligibility requirements under U.S. law.

If you do not meet these requirements, you should not submit an entry to the DV-2011 program.

Diversity Visa Program Requirements

  • Entries can only be made during the registration period.
  • All entries by an individual will be disqualified if more than one entry is received for that individual.
  • Entries must be made online; paper entries will not be accepted.
  • All information requested on the online entry form must be provided, and must be accurate.
  • If you are married or have children at the time of your entry, you must list these individuals on your application.
  • All required photographs must be submitted for all applicants, and must conform to DV program specifications
  • Photographs must be recent -- all applicants must be easily recognizable.
  • Photographs may not be digitally manipulated in any way.
  • For DV-2011, you must submit a valid e-mail address on your application form.

Diversity Visa Program Notification

A computer will randomly select individuals from among all qualified entries.  DV-2011 applicants who are selected will be notified by mail between May and June 2010.  Selected program entrants will not be notified by e-mail.  DV-2011 program entrants who are not selected for diversity visas will not be contacted.  Applicants may check the status of their entry online here

Diversity Visa Program Fees

Selected program entrants will be provided further instructions, including information on fees associated with immigration to the U.S.  The Diversity Visa 2010 application fee was $755 per person; this fee may change for the 2011 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.  The application fee is the only fee required.  Fees must be paid in cash in either U.S. dollars or Bangladeshi Taka at the cash counter in the Consular Section prior to the DV interview.  Application fees do not guarantee visa issuance.  Application fees are non-refundable, even if a visa is not issued.

Note:  There are no fees for registration in the DV-2011 Program.

Diversity Visa Interview

Selected lottery entrants will be scheduled an interview date at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.  Selection in the Diversity Lottery program does not guarantee that a visa will be issued.  Applicants may be disqualified due to:
  (1) inaccurate or incomplete information on their applications;
  (2) photographs which do not conform to specifications;
  (3) prior ineligibilities; or
  (4) failure to meet program requirements

If you are married at the time of your DV interview, your spouse must accompany you to your interview, regardless of whether he/she will apply for a visa.  Be prepared to submit evidence of your marital relationship (e.g. nikah namah with certified English translation, wedding photos, etc.) at the time of your interview.

Diversity Visa interviews will not be re-scheduled.  If a Diversity Visa applicant fails to appear at the scheduled interview, the applicant’s DV-2011 application will be terminated.

Fraud Warning

There are fraudulent websites posing as official U.S. Government sites. Some companies posing as the U.S. Government have sought money in order to “complete” program entry forms. There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form. The Department of State notifies successful Diversity Visa applicants by letter -- NOT by e-mail. To learn more see the Department of State Fraud Warning and the Federal Trade Commission Warning.

If you are aware of any fraud associated with the DV program, please e-mail us at dhakadvfraud@state.gov
