Doing Business in Bangladesh
The U.S. Trade Center (USTC) offers a variety of services to American businesses seeking export and investment opportunities in Bangladesh. American firms are invited to take advantage of the following USTC services:
- Country Commercial Guide: Our Country Commercial Guide is a comprehensive report on the commercial, economic and political environment in Bangladesh. The report contains detailed market analysis, as well as information on trade regulations, business travel, and an assessment of the country’s overall investment climate.
- Advocacy Assistance: U.S. firms requesting Embassy assistance related to a proposed or actual investment, export or bid in pursuit of a foreign government tender or contract should contact the Department of Commerce’s Advocacy Center at 202-482-3896 or visit the Advocacy Center’s website: http://www.uschamber.com/sb/trade/advocacy_center.htm. American firms must complete an advocacy questionnaire and anti-bribery agreement, signed by a duly authorized company representative, before U.S. Government advocacy may commence.
- International Company Profile (ICP): The ICP is a confidential business report providing background information on individual Bangladeshi firms. Each report includes information on product lines handled, value and size of business, volume of operations, business reputation, and trade references. American firms can request an ICP by contacting the USTC or the nearest U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center in the U.S. (Commerce Export Assistance Centers are located in nearly every major U.S. city). The fee for an ICP is $500.
- International Partnership Search (IPS): This service identifies and provides background information on qualified Bangladeshi firms willing to represent U.S. companies in Bangladesh. American firms can request an IPS report by contacting the USTC or the nearest U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center in the U.S. (Commerce Export Assistance Centers are located in nearly every major U.S. city). The fee for an IPS is $600.
- Gold Key and Silver Key Services: The USTC offers Silver and Gold Key services to visiting U.S. business executives to help make their visit to Bangladesh as productive as possible. The fee ranges between $500 and $750. - Catalog Shows: U.S. firms display their products and services via catalog shows organized throughout Bangladesh by the USTC. Some catalog shows are tailored to certain product lines, while others display a variety of U.S. goods and services. Please contact the U.S. Commerce Department Export Assistance Center nearest you for more information on how to participate.
- U.S. Trade Show: Held annually in conjunction with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, the U.S. Trade Show attracts thousands of visitors every year. American firms or their local agents interested in purchasing a booth to display their goods and services at the U.S. Trade Show should contact the American Chamber (phone: 880-2-861-3391; fax 880-2-831-2975; email amcham@bangla.net). The U.S. Trade Show is typically held every January in Dhaka.
- The National Trade Data Bank (NTDB) : The NTDB is the U.S. Government’s most comprehensive source of world trade data. The NTDB, a CD-ROM subscription service of the U.S. Commerce Department’s STAT-USA, is a trade library of more than 190,000 documents. NTDB provides small and medium-sized companies with access to information that until now only Fortune 500 companies could afford. The NTDB includes information on export opportunities by industry, country, and product; how-to market guides; demographic, political and socio-economic conditions; and much more.
