Bangladesh Remembers Edward M. Kennedy

Bangladesh remembers U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy who died last week at age 77.
Senator Kennedy was buried at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C. on 29 August.
In Dhaka, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni signed a condolence book at the U.S. Embassy on Sunday, August 30. In her note she wrote, "You carved out a space in my mind during my childhood when you stood by us in our exercise of the right to self determination as a nation."
Both Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia have offered their condolences to the Kennedy family and the people of the United States. Senator Kennedy was an early and vocal supporter of Bangladeshi independence. He visited refugee camps in West Bengal, India during the 1971 war and became one of the first international leaders to visit Bangladesh after liberation
