• Week of March 7, 2010

Information Resource Officer Steven P. Kerchoff talks to the staff at the Dhaka University Library. During his visit to Dhaka he also spoke to the students of the Department of Information Science and Library Management on higher education in the United States.  U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. American Center Director Lauren Lovelace is on left.  The guided missile frigate USS Ingraham (FFG-61) visited Bangladesh March 1-3 to conduct a port call in Chittagong. This is the first time Ingraham has visited Bangladesh. This visit is the latest in a series of port calls by U.S. Navy ships and demonstrates the United States Government's commitment to Bangladesh and to regional security by expanding relationships throughout Asia and the Pacific.  Bangladesh Ambassador to United States Akramul Qadar is joined by United States Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. • Week of February 28

U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. Moriarty presents a check to Taimur Islam, Team Leader of the Urban Study Group, which has received a grant from the U.S. Government’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation to restore a historic building in Shakhari Bazaar, Old Dhaka.  Visitor at the American Center watch a documentary “Biography: Barack Obama.”  CAO Catherine Hallock talks on graduate study in the U.S.  Ambassador James F. Moriarty speaks at the opening of the U.S. Trade Show 2010 in Dhaka.  Visitors at the Student Advising section ask questions about higher education in the United States. 
 

• Week of February 21

Alumni Member of the Month November 2010 Fahad bin Kamal receives a certificate from the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. Moriarty.  Cultural Affairs Officer Catherine A. Hallock introduces a documentary “Prince Among Slaves” to the students of Jahangirnagar University.  The American Center is honoring Black History month with various activities held both at the American Center and throughout Bangladesh. • Week of February 7 & 14

• Week of January 31

U.S. Embassy Dhaka staff and family participated in a Habitat for Humanity Build program on January 30 in Savar.   American Center Director Lauren Lovelace (5th from right) and Cultural Affairs Assistant Tahnia Shahid (6th) at the opening of Viqarunnesa English Club. Ms. Lovelace inaugurated the club on January 28.   American Center Director Lauren Lovelace speaks to an audience at the American Corner in Chittagong. During her visit she met with teachers and students of the universities in Chittagong.   Senior Advisor in the State Department Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Ambassador Michael G. Kozak meets with Bangladesh Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed. Political Officer Mr. David P. Arulanantham is on the right.   Cultural Affairs Officer Ms. Catherine Hallock speaks to the students at Presidency University Bangladesh. More than sixty students attended the program and learned about graduate study in the United States.  
                        

• Week of January 25

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Patrick S. Moon meets with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni.  U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. Moriarty speaks at a Roundtable on Entrepreneurship organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh.   Information Officer Harvey W. Sernovitz welcomes the audience and speaks on the significance of Religious Freedom Day.  Director of the American Center Lauren Lovelace speaks at “Poetry Adda.” The American Center held a poetry reading event on January 21st.   Audience watch a documentary film “Martin Luther King: I Have a Dream.
