US Chargé D'affaires Presented Book Bags From The U.S. Department Of State To Students Of Rangamati Government High School

Rangamati, August 24, 2005

The U.S. Embassy Chargé D'Affaires, Judith A. Chammas presented book bags to students of class VII-IX of of Rangamati Government High School, at a ceremony held on the school premises on August 24.  The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Gazi Md. Zulhas, the head mistress Ms. Nirupa Dewan and other teachers and students of the school.  Chargé Chammas, in her remarks, talked about American life and culture and invited questions from students in an interactive session following her remarks.  Rangamati is the seventh district in which the U.S. Embassy has carried out a book bag distribution program with the assistance of “Change Makers,” a non-governmental organization. 

Chargé Chammas will also distribute book bags among tribal school children in Jibtali Headman Para Community School, under Jibtali Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila on August 25.

The U.S. Department of State has provided 10,000 book bags for Bangladeshi school children under a program entitled “Shared Futures” that seeks to communicate the friendship of the people of the United States and their desire to show the similaries between Americans and Bangladeshis, including common values, globalization, education and self-empowerment. The program aims to promote better understanding of the United States, its people and our shared interests and values as democratic nations.
