Security Notice for December 8-9, 2006

The police have confirmed that the Awami League will organize demonstrations through out the country purportedly at 16:00 hrs on Friday and Saturday. A large public gathering in Dhaka will take place at the Mohakhali, Gulistan, Bangabandhu Avenue, Zero Point, Muktangon, Paltan Maidan, Engineers' Institute, Russell Square, Sobhanbag, Mirpur, Syedabad, Uttara and Jatrabari. Be advised that some demonstrators will pass through the Diplomatic Enclave (including the Natun Bazar highway) to join demonstrations in front of the Lutfun Tower, Badda.

The Hizbut Tahrir Bangladesh will organize a demonstration at 14:00 hrs on Friday, December 8, 2006 at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque demanding implementation of Islamic Rule in Bangladesh.

We recommend that American citizens avoid areas where large crowds are gathered, especially in those areas listed above.

We also recommend that American citizens continue to monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
