Security Notice for January 10, 2007
The Awami League will organize a grand meeting/demonstration today January 10, 2007 at 14:00 in Paltan Maidan; they will announce their future plans at that time. Vehicle traffic disruptions are expected due to demonstrators traveling towards the Paltan Maidan. Some demonstrators are expected to pass through the Notun Bazar highway to converge at the Paltan Maidan. Outside of Dhaka, all roads railway and river systems and ports are open.
Due to the planned demonstration, the police have banned all kinds of vehicles from traveling on eight roads around the Paltan Maidan. The roads are: High Court to Paltan Intersection, Shapla Circle (Motijheel), Bijoy Nagor to Paltan to Fulbaria Intersection, Fakirapool to Rajuk, Gulisthan, Abdul Ghani Road, Kormojibi Hospital to Golap Shah Majar, Alico Bhaban to Rajuk Crossing, Ittefaq Intersection to Sergeant Ahad Police Box and Joy Kali Mandir.
We recommend that American citizens avoid areas where large crowds are gathered, especially the Paltan Maidan, the Muktangan, Bangabandhu Avenue, Baitul Mukkaram Mosque and Dainik Bangla Intersection and the banned roads listed above.
We recommend that American citizens continue to monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
