Security Notice

Security Notice for January 11, 2007

The Awami League has called for countrywide demonstration/rallies throughout Bangladesh;today January 11, 2007. Because of demonstration/rallies in various sections of Dhaka, it is likely that traffic delays will be significant.

The Awami League will hold demonstrations in the following areas: Gulistan, Bangabandhu Avenue, Zero Point, Muktangan, Paltan Maidan, Engineers' Institute, Russell Square, Sobhanbag, Mirpur, Syedabad, Uttara, Jatrabari and Mohakhali.  The Embassy advises all American Citizens to avoid the areas mentioned above.

We recommend that American citizens limit their movements and monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.

English language news is available on the following channels at the following times:

ATN – 18:00
Banglavision – 21:05
BTV – 22:00
BTV – 23:30 (also broadcast by all local Satellite stations: ATN, Channel I, NTV, RTV, Banglavision Channel 1, Boishaki)
