Police have confirmed that Islami Okio Jute will hold a protest rally tomorrow, Thursday, May 28, at 1500. At this time the planned venue is the north gate of the Baitul Mukaram National Mosque. The alternate proposed location is Muktangan, located close to the mosque.
The Embassy recommends that all Americans avoid travel to the Baitul Mukarram Mosque area, including Muktangan and Topkhana-Motijheel Road from today, Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 1600 until Friday, May 29, 2009 at 1800.
We remind all Americans to exercise vigilance when traveling in Dhaka. Please be alert and aware at all times and vary routes and schedules. We encourage all American Citizens to carry their mobile phones with them at all times.
Americans living or traveling in Bangladesh are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy through the State Department's travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security within Bangladesh.
