Security Notice, November 1, 2006

GENERAL DEMONSTRATIONS

The police have confirmed that the following groups have planned demonstrations near downtown Dhaka on Wednesday, November 1, 2006.

The Awami Sheccha-Shebok League will hold a demonstration at 15:00 hours at the Bangabandhu Avenue.

The Bangladesh Communist Party will hold a demonstration at 16:00 hours at the Muktangon.

The BNP led alliance will organize rallies and processions throughout the country. There will be large public gatherings at the Muktangan, Naya Paltan, Paltan Maidan and Bangabandhu Avenue. For now, it is calm; however the situation remains fluid and violence could flare up at any time. 

We recommend that American citizens avoid the Muktangan, Naya Paltan, Paltan Maidan and Bangabandhu Avenue. Travel outside the diplomatic enclave is permitted except to the previously mentioned areas.

We recommend that American citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
