Security Notice

Security Notice, November 14, 2006

Traffic in Dhaka is greater than yesterday , but still not back to normal. Rail, road and waterway communication between Dhaka and the rest of the country remains completely stopped. As of this morning, there is no violence in the streets downtown. However, the police are not sure if the situation will remain calm as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led Four-Party Alliance will take to the streets today to protest against the ongoing countrywide blockade enforced by the Awami League (AL)-led 14-Party combine. Although, there is no violence right now the situation remains fluid and the potential for altercations is high.

The situation remains volatile. Please continue to monitor local media updates and avoid areas known to be likely sites for demonstrations.

American citizens are advised that the movements of U.S. Embassy personnel will continue to be restricted to the Diplomatic Enclave until further notice.
