GENERAL DEMONSTRATIONS (Security Notice)

Police confirmed that the following groups have planned demonstrations near downtown Dhaka on Sunday, November 19, 2006.

The Dhaka City Awami League will organize a demonstration at 14:00 hrs at the Bangabandhu Avenue.

The Islami Shashon Tontro Anodolon will organize a demonstration at 15:00 hrs at the Baitul Mukarram North Gate.

The Five Leftist Party and Gonomukti Andolon will organize a demonstration at 15:00 hrs at the Purana Paltan.

The Jukto Front will organize a demonstration at 16:00 hrs at the Gulisthan Golap Shah Mazar.

Police have also confirmed that the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) will organize country-wide demonstrations for the whole day. In Dhaka, the largest public gathering will be at the Muktangan.

We recommend that American citizens avoid the Muktangan for the whole day and also to avoid Bangabandhu, Purana Paltan, Gulisthan and Baitul Mukarram during the times mentioned above.

We also recommend that American citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
