GENERAL DEMONSTRATIONS

Police have confirmed that the following groups have planned demonstrations near downtown Dhaka on Monday, November 27, 2006.

The Bangladesh Communist Party will organize a demonstration at 11:00 hrs at the Purana Paltan.

The Awami League will organize a "sit-in" around the Bangabhaban from 10:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs. The 14-party activists will take their position at 10 locations around the Bangabhaban.

The BNP will organize country- wide demonstrations. In Dhaka, the largest public gathering will be at the Naya Paltan at 15:00 hrs.

We recommend that American citizens avoid areas where large crowds are gathered, especially the Bangabhaban area and the Naya Paltan, and continue to monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
