DEMONSTRATIONS

Police sources confirmed that the following groups have planned demonstrations near downtown Dhaka on Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

The National Garment Workers’ Federation, an alliance of 11- garments workers’ associations, declared a country - wide strike today.

The Bangladesh Communist Party will hold a demonstration at 15: 30 hours at the Paltan.

Police also confirmed expectations of heavy traffic as a result of this demonstration, there could be possibly civil unrest all over the city during the entire day especially in Uttara, Mirpur, Rampura, Tezgaon, Tongi, Mohakhali, Paltan Intersection and the Muktangan area.

We recommend that American citizens avoid these areas during these specified times.

We also recommend that American citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
