Prime Minister's Office Siege on September 12, 2006.
The police have confirmed that the Awami League and opposition will hold a siege and/or sit-in at the Prime Minister's Office tomorrow from 11:00 to 13:00. Demonstrators are likely to come in small processions/groups from different parts of the city and gather at the Prime Minister's Office Area.
The government yesterday imposed a ban on any kind of gathering, procession, demonstration or siege around the Prime Minister's Office from 00:01 until 24:00 on September 12, 2006.
The Police stated the ban will be effective around the Prime Minister's Office with the following city streets considered as the area where demonstrators will be stopped.
The restricted areas are: from Mohakhali crossing to Parjatan crossing via Shaheed Jahangir Gate and Public Service Commission (PSC) office, Bijoy Sarani to Urojahaj crossing, Agargaon crossing on Rokeya Sarani to Shishu Mela, Shisu Mela to Dhanmondi Road-27 (old) via Mirpur Road, including Mohammadia Super Market, Tallabagh to Square Hospital on Panthapath via Sukrabad.
Among the areas are also Square Hospital to Chalet Crossing to Free School Street and Bangla Motor crossing via Sundarban Hotel, Bangla Motor crossing to Moghbazar crossing and Moghbazar crossing to Tongi Diversion Road to Mohakhali crossing via Satrasta crossing and Nabisco crossing.
The Embassy advises all American Citizens to avoid above areas during the time specified above.
We also recommend that American Citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
