The police have stated that the opposition alliance will hold a public rally on Monday, September 18, 2006 at 1500 hours at the Paltan Maidan.
The opposition alliance is expecting that a large number of their supporters from the neighboring districts of Dhaka will participate in the rally. The police have stated they will allow the crowd to attend the rally.
No private vehicles will be able to travel the city roads towards downtown from 1200-1800. The Police expect heavy traffic at these areas as a result of the road closures.
The Embassy advises all American Citizens to avoid the Paltan Maidan & downtown area during the time specified above.
We also recommend that American Citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
