AWAMI LEAGUE ROAD BLOCKED & HARTAL: 09/20/06 & 09/21/06

September 20, 2006:

The police have confirmed that the Awami League & its alliance will enforce a countrywide day long blockade on the highways, railways and river ways on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, related to their demands to reforms in the Caretaker Government and the Election Commission.

September 21, 2006:

The police have confirmed that the Awami League & its alliance called for a countrywide, daylong Hartal from 0600 hours to 1800 hours on Thursday, September 21, 2006, related to their demands to reforms in the Caretaker Government and the Election Commission.

The Embassy advises all American Citizens to avoid the downtown area during the time specified above. 

We also recommend that American Citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media.
