Security Notice

September 27, 2007

The police have stated that several Islamic groups have planned demonstrations throughout Dhaka on Thursday and Friday, September 27 and 28, 2007.

Thursday, September 27, 2007: Police have advised to use caution when in the vicinity of mosques in the following areas from 1600 until 1730.

Badda, Uttara, Mohammadpur, Tejgaon, Khilgaon, Jatrabari, Sutrapur, Lalbagh, Mirpur and Pallabi

Friday, September 28, 2007: Police have advised to avoid the following mosques and their surrounding areas from 1400 hours to 1700 hours:

Baitul Mukarram Mosque, Topkhana Road, Downtown

Rahim Metal Mosque, Tejgaon Industrial area

Uttar Badda Mosque, Progoti Sharani, Uttar Badda

Lalbagh Mosque, Old Town

The Embassy advises all American Citizens to avoid these areas during the planned demonstrations.

General Security Guidance:  All Americans are reminded to exercise vigilance when traveling in Dhaka as demonstrations can occur with little warning.  All personnel should be sure to avoid crowds. Please be alert and aware at all times and continue to vary routes and schedules.  Finally, all individuals are reminded to carry their mobile phones with them at all times.

BTV – 2200
BTV – 2330 (also broadcasts by all local satellite stations:  ATN, Channel I, NTV, RTV, Bangla Vision, and Boishaki)
