The American Center oversees “American Corner” mini-libraries in Chittagong, Sylhet and Jessore. American Corner Jessore opened in November 2005 at the Jessore Institute Public Library, Bangladesh’s oldest and largest community (not governmental) library. The American Corner provides basic reference materials on the United States, Internet terminals, video viewing facilities, and English-language tapes, as well as a growing section of guidebooks for students wanting to study at American universities. The American Center Library of the U.S. Embassy has introduced its third American Corner in Jessore on Monday, November 21, 2005. Environment and Forest Minister Tariqul Islam and Chargé D'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy Ms. Judith A. Chammas jointly inaugurated the American Corner in Jessore Institute Public Library. The people of Jessore are encouraged to visit the American Corner and sign up for its services.
