Warden Message

Warden Message, April 7, 2006

This Warden Message is being sent to remind all U.S. citizens that the security situation in Bangladesh remains unchanged since the issuance of the March 22 Public Announcement.

We remind all U.S. citizens to vary their routes and times for traveling to and from work, as well as to and from places they frequent on a regular basis. It is also a good idea to use the buddy system when walking in your neighborhoods, and to carry your mobile telephones with you.

The Embassy continues to be concerned that JMB elements might attempt to retaliate for the capture of JMB leaders.  Possible methods of attack include bombings, shootings, and kidnappings. Information that indicates other terrorist groups may have an interest in Western or American targets has also recently surfaced. The specificity of this information remains unclear at this time.

We urge all Americans to review the March 22 Public Announcement and to re-examine their personal security practices, using the Department of State’s web link on personal safety (http://www.state.gov/m/ds/rls/rpt/19773.htm), and to continue to monitoring the Embassy's website for updated security information.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka can be reached at (880-2) 885-5500 during regular hours and for after-hours emergencies. Our website address is dhaka.usembassy.gov. For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Bangladesh Public Announcement, Bangladesh Consular Information Sheet and other Public Announcements and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S.; or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 am to 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays)
