Warden Message December 6, 2005

Police sources have confirmed following protests are planned for today, December 6, 2005:

The City Awami League will stage a protest around the National Press Club today at 1100 hours in protest of the failures of government.

Bangladesh College Teachers Association will stage a protest around the Muktangan today at 1100 hours in protest of recent bomb threats to educational institutes.

Islamic Okiyo Jute will organize a protest around the north gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque today at 1500 hours in protest of the harassment of innocent Madrasha students by law enforcement agencies.

Dhaka City Jamate Islami will organize a protest around the north gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque today at 1600 hours in protest of the opposition party’s allegation against them.

We wish to remind American Citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent, and accordingly American Citizens are urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations, if possible and to exercise caution if in the vicinity of demonstrations.

We also encourage all Americans living in Bangladesh or traveling through the area to register at www.travel.state.gov or by calling the Embassy at 885-5500.
