Police sources have confirmed that there will be several demonstrations planned for Tuesday, December 20th, Wednesday, December 21st and Friday, December 23rd.

The Bangladesh Chatra League (student wing of Awami League) will stage a demonstration around the Muktangan area (near Bangladesh Secretariat & Zero Point) today at 1500 hours in support of their demands to ban activities of the Islami Chatra Shibir.

Bangladesh Communist Party will organize a rally around the Muktangan area (near Bangladesh Secretariat & Zero Point) today at 1600 hours in protest of the government’s failure to arrest top Islamic militant leaders.

Police sources have confirmed that the ruling party BNP will organize a Grand Public rally on December 21 at 1500 hours at the Paltan Maidan.

Police sources further confirmed that on Friday, December 23, after Friday prayer at 1500 hours the Khatme Nobuyat Bangladesh, a non political Islamic group opposed to the Ahmediyas will organize a demonstration around the Baitul Mukarram national mosque in support of their demand to ban the Ahmediyas and declare them non-Muslim. The Khatme Nobuyat Bangladesh group is planning to carry out a procession towards Ahmediya mosques in the Bakshi Bazar & Tejgaon Industrial area.

Police are expecting violence in the above mentioned areas during these demonstrations. We wish to remind American Citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. American Citizens are urged to avoid these areas if possible, and to exercise caution whenever they are in the vicinity of demonstrations. We advise all Americans to avoid large public gatherings, especially if an incident has just occurred.
