Warden Message, February 22, 2006

A UN Special Rapporteurs’ report was issued on February 16, 2006, which lodges a significant number of allegations about U.S. Government mistreatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. This report is flawed both factually and in its legal theory. The timing of this report coincides with extensive media coverage regarding the release of additional images of alleged prisoner abuse at Baghdad’s Abu Ghraib Prison. Consequently, the potential exists for demonstrations and protests, some of which could be violent, in reaction to these issues.

U.S. citizens are urged to maintain a high level of vigilance and personal security awareness at all times, to avoid crowds and demonstrations, and to maintain a low profile.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka can be reached at (880-2) 885-5500 during regular hours and for after-hours emergencies. Our website address is dhaka.usembassy.gov .
