Warden Message, January 4, 2006

Police sources have confirmed the following Public Demonstrations are planned for January 4, 2006.


* The Socialist Student Front will stage a demonstration at the Dhaka University
Campus at 1100 hours in support of their demand to ban Single Method Education
Policy.

* The Bangladesh National Awami Party will stage a demonstration around the
Muktangan (near Bangladesh Secretariat) at 1500 hours to protest against the
price hike of essential commodities.  The AL is also protesting their perception
of the government's backing of the rise in Islamic fundamentalism.
 
* Left Democratic Alliances will hold a demonstration at the Purana Paltan area
(near Bangladesh Secretariat) at 1600 hours to protest against the attack on the
Communist Party of Bangladesh's rally.

Police have advised to avoid Dhaka University and the following downtown areas
during these demonstrations:

Muktangan, Purana Paltan, National Press Club.

We wish to remind American Citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. American Citizens are urged to avoid these areas if possible, and to exercise caution whenever they are in the vicinity of demonstrations. We advise all Americans to avoid large public gatherings, especially if an incident has just occurred.
