Warden Message, January 24, 2006

Police sources have confirmed the following protests are planned for today, January 24, 2006:

The Bangladesh Communist Party will stage a protest around the Muktangan area today at 1500 hours in protest of yesterday’s killing of seven villagers by the Police in Chapai Nawabgonj district.( 320 kilometers Northwest of Dhaka)The Awami Jubo League (Opposition Party's Youth Wing) will stage a protest today at Bangabandhu Avenue at 1500 hours to increase their demands to the government.

We recommend that American citizens avoid the following areas of Dhaka City during these planned demonstrations:

Muktangan, Purana Paltan, Gulistan, GPO, Bangabandhu Avenue, and the National Press Club.

We wish to remind American Citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn violent. American Citizens are urged to avoid these areas if possible, and to exercise caution whenever they are in the vicinity of demonstrations. We advise all Americans to avoid large public gatherings, especially if an incident has just occurred.
