Awami League Party Leader (and former Prime Minister) Sheikh Hasina was arrested on the morning of July 16th, 2007. She is being housed in a government-owned lodging in the Parliament area. The U.S Embassy recommends that American citizens avoid the Parliament area, the Dhaka University area, Shahbagh, and the CMM Court area.
