The situation in Bangladesh remains fluid at this time. Funeral services took place today for a number of those who died during the February 25-26 BDR mutiny. The religious services will be followed by burials at a military cemetery in Banani and possibly other graveyards. Meanwhile, the search for individuals reported missing continues. Local law enforcement authorities have informed the U.S. Embassy that Operation Rebel Hunt, a military led operation to track down fleeing BDR mutineers, is underway throughout the country. The Army is focusing on public transportation services, including buses and bus stops, airports, rickshaws, and taxis as well as targeted low income residential areas (where fleeing mutineers might seek refuge).
We advise all Americans to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel. Americans are reminded to exercise routine personal security awareness and encouraged to avoid crowds. The U.S. Embassy will continue to monitor the situation.
