To date, political violence and civil unrest have erupted in Dhaka and throughout the country. Clashes between police and political parties have occurred in various parts of the city, especially at the Muktangan, Paltan Maidan area, Bangabandhu Avenue, Baitul Mukarram North gate, Shahbagh, Bijoynagar, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Dhaka University, Green Road, Moghbazar, Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Tongi and Gabtoli.
The violence has disrupted road and rail transportation systems.
Political rallies today and in the days to come may lead to violence at rally locations as well as congestion and disturbances on the main arteries leading to rally locations.
The situation is volatile and the U.S. Embassy advises American Citizens to restrict travel to locations where demonstrations are taking place and avoid large crowds.
We recommend that American citizens monitor announcements that are published in the local press or announced in the local media. English language news is available on the following channels at the following times:
