Warden Message - Updated Reports
August 17, 2005
The U.S. Embassy issues this message, updating our earlier warden message, advising American citizens to remain vigilant, to postpone unnecessary travel, and to remain in contact with their friends and family if they do travel. Between 11:00 and 11:30 AM local time, police sources confirm that approximately 9 small explosions occurred in various locations within Dhaka. Additionally, the police sources confirm that approximately 100 other small explosions occurred across Bangladesh. There are a number of reports of minor injuries, but no confirmed reports of deaths or major casualties. At several explosion sites, fliers in both Arabic and Bangla have been found condemning President Bush and Prime Minister Blair’s actions in Iraq. The Embassy will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
